CONVOY ISSUE // HAULER CAP
The stations never ran on signal alone. Fuel, cable, batteries and replacement valves came by road, carried by the haulers: the drivers who ran supply convoys along highways nobody else used anymore. They drove at night with the headlights low and the radio tuned to the relay band, and a station only opened its gate when it saw the mark on the driver's cap.
Most of the trucks are still out there, parked where the fuel ran out. Some of the radios are still on.
THE SIGNAL MARK
A dead city under a full moon, cut by a single peak. In the archive it is the insignia of the relay crews, the people who kept the stations running after the cities went dark. It was painted on doors, stamped on equipment and stitched onto every uniform. Wherever the mark appears, something nearby is still transmitting.
