Every console in the network had a mug beside it and a log page that ends mid-sentence. The coffee went cold years ago. The console never switched off. This is the black mug the crews kept by the night console.
THE SIGNAL MARK A dead city under a full moon, cut by a single peak. In the archive it is the insignia of the relay crews, the people who kept the stations running after the cities went dark. It was painted on doors, stamped on equipment and stitched onto every uniform. Wherever the mark appears, something nearby is still transmitting.
